The Three Lives of Thomasina - No.1 cat movie!

Submitted by mary on Friday, 10 April 2009One Comment

Chronicles finds it is time to revisit our old top cat movies list prompted by a viewing of the fantastic Three Lives of Thomasina.

This film stars a very large, very gorgeous ginger cat (a tom we suspect but for the purposes of the film playing a female) as Paul Gallico’s eponymous Thomasina. It is set in one of those picturesque Disney villages populated by dubiously accented ”Scots” with one of our favourite actors Patrick McGoohan and those kids from Mary Poppins (who must have been still on contract). It is worth watching for the cat footage alone, with dynamic tree climbing, speeded up running shots and a very odd dream/near death sequence with Thomasina falling through the air and visiting a cat god in a faux Egyptian temple populated by Siamese cats. Oh and a cat in a bonnet and bridemaid’s dress… Okay, it sounds mental, but it works.

It has shot to the top of our top ten (em, eleven) and we recommend that Disney reissue a brand spanking new edition post haste. Thomasina rules.
